MeshLoop
MeshLoop is a tool that lets artists preview their models - meshes, nodes, animations, materials, etc... - in Torque 3D tech. It also enables the making of transparent screenshots of 3D models in both orthogonal (isometric) and perspective camera views making it a very useful tool for creating 2D sprites for mobile games.
The following are some game icons that were created using MeshLoop. Thanks to its features - the 3 lights system and screen capture over a transparent background - we were able to save thousands of dollars.
The following video shows MeshLoop in action highlighting some of its features. For a full feature list, scroll down.
Features
- Up-to-date - you can choose to check for updates automatically - download and install any new versions of the tool
- Lightweight - the installer is a slim 4.1 Megs download
- Automatic - double-click a DTS file to view it right away!
- Intelligent - saves your settings on every object that you ever view while you work - you can choose to save preferences on a per model basis or globally (default)
- Open anywhere - no path registration needed, no tedious setting up of a Torque environment - simply click the file, the tool will find materials, skins for you automatically - and if it doesn't, it will create them for you
- Rotate, pan, zoom and automatically fit the object in the view
- Show and hide mesh groups on your shape
- Reskin with a single click - the program scans images that are valid skins for the model
- Load DSQ animations with the shape in bulk or individually
- 2D or 3D - choose between orthogonal (also known as isometric) and perspective camera views
- Take a screenshot of your object with either the built in, a transparent or your own background color or image
- Ideal for making character portraits, isometric tile sets or icons for your game from your 3D objects
- Resize the view pane to resize your screenshot
- Convert collada .dae files to .dts (requires that you make .dae files open with this program first)
- Test materials on any object - compatible with Torque 3D and TGEA materials
- Works with TGE - it creates materials on the fly if they are missing
- Supports all material features that Torque 3D supports
- Textured, transparent and wireframe views
- 3 lights system with an intuitive interface to light your model for your screenshot
- Global or shape specific settings
- Overlapping node solver that will make sure you can identify every single node even if they overlap
- Unmapped diffuse maps can be forced to be rendered as opaque to correct materialless foliage rendering
- Three lighting modes for best reference: Plain, Basic and Advanced
- Overlays for joints, nodes, lights, a Torque grid, coordinate axes
- Tinted nodes - nodes on the same level will receive the same color
- Light icons that represent the state, direction and color of your individual lights in the scene
- Visibility options for bounding box, collision and line of sight meshes
- Intuitive controls for handling and forcing values for meshes, LOD information, nodes, skins, animation threads and lights
- Reset windows easily
- View animation using a number of features such as blending and looping (changeable) flags, speed change, backwards animation (SHIFT-drag for single and double speeds), percentage, frame and seconds time display, quick thread selection
- Before being published, it has been tested for over a year by several companies and artists
